Weeks 23 & 24: Impromptu 4th of July trip, shoe deal, free concert, free pool time, new Zenni sunglasses

Welcome to weeks 23 and 24 of our Social Security experiment!

4th of July trip

The first week of July was awesome. We decided to rent a dog-friendly cabin last-minute, and that was super affordable. It was probably the closest I’ll get to camping!

We hung out with some friends before dinner and made our way to an awesome location for fireworks. It was unseasonably cool where we were, so it really was quite wonderful. (It was great to take the dogs too, though we have realized we can’t count them for this experiment due to the cost of their food and meds.)

Jasper’s video below is the best way to see what we did that weekend:

Look how cute this picture of Justin and Sunshine is!

Meanwhile…

I could not pick Jasper up for a good photo!

Deals: New shoes, household essentials, free protein bars, Zenni sunglasses

On the way to the mountains, we stopped and I got a deal on some new running shoes. They were $75 instead of $109.99. It seemed like a great weekend to buy this style!

Another deal I got was a $15 credit with a $50 household essentials purchase at Amazon. I also stocked up at Target during the Target Circle sale and got a $15 gift card with a $50 purchase of household essentials there.

The protein bars deal was an unfortunate situation. There was something wrong with a bar I purchased from the store and I let the company know. The lady that contacted me back was so nice and felt terrible about the issue. They sent me a box of bars for free! That would have cost me about $40 to purchase outright. I was so glad they wanted to make things right.

Finally, I got a deal on Zenni sunglasses.

I thought they looked pretty good!

Free pool time

This was the Sunday after we went to the mountains, but I traveled to a public pool about 40 minutes from where we live to enjoy some pool time. When I got there, it was an hour or so before close, and so they let me in for free! That was super nice, and I got to enjoy some pool time over 4th of July weekend.

Free concert

We are taking full advantage of these free concerts this summer. This one was a Garth Brooks cover band, and they were good! It was SUPER crowded, probably the busiest I’ve seen this venue.

I kept up with some driving routes for extra money, and that has helped out a lot.

How do you like to have fun and save money?

Hope you have a great week!!! 🌻
