June has been a full month filled with friends and fun, and I’m super glad for that.
This is WAYYY off topic, but my birthdays were tough when I was growing up. I try to make them fun as an adult. 😃
This month, I had a couple of very relaxing days, got a deal on something awesome, and had a challenging side gig day.
Here’s what happened on weeks 21 and 22 of our Social Security budget!
The relaxing day
The day after the concert was a good day to relax. I took the opportunity to go to the lake (free!) and saw a beautiful butterfly fluttering near a beautiful tree. It was a great day to get some sunshine!

The Dolly deal

I found this gem at Target…a Dolly Parton t-shirt for $3.89! I bought two for this amazing price — one for me and one for a friend.
The Dad dinner
My Dad and his wife took us out to eat at mine (and his wife’s!) favorite restaurant. Thanks for the amazing dinner, Dad!

Friend lake day
A friend and I went to a lake in the mountains, and I brought my inflatable kayak and another float. She is a master thrifter and so when we get together we are both budget-conscious. Hanging out a the lake with my floats costs us nothing! And it was super fun. That is, until a thunderstorm ran us off…

It was coming right for us, so we skedaddled outta there!
On the way home, we saw some awesome rainbows. 😍🌈
Resort Pass
I used some birthday money to do something I’ve been thinking of trying for awhile — Resort Pass.
There is a winery near us that offers this pass, and I was thrilled when I heard they did. The weekend pass is not something I would consider since it’s $100, but the weekday pass is very doable at $30 — if you can get one! They often sell out quickly if people know it will be a pretty day.
So this was an extra special treat. I felt like I was living in luxury — for just $30!

Side gig near-shipwreck
Overall, I am really enjoying the driving side gig. I enjoy seeing people’s beautiful landscaping, earning extra money, and being in the sunshine. However, I had a CLOSE call.

As you can see, I got REALLY close to the end of my charge! And it was unnerving.
I did not anticipate my battery to drain so quickly. But the hot weather has really done a number on my car’s capacity running the air conditioning.
Thankfully, there was a dealership close to where I was at the end of my route, and Justin met me there. I had to deliver a package that was undeliverable earlier in the day, and he helped me to do that while my car was charging. PHEW! 😅
June month-end
For the month of June (drumroll…) we ended at POSITIVE $5.14!! Finally. Every other month before now has been slightly negative, which I have carried forward to pay off in the next month. So we finally made our Social Security budget work for us!
However, it required us realizing our home would need to be paid off, as well as our cars; we could not have dogs, and one or both of us would need to have a side hustle for extra income if we wanted to do anything such as go out to eat or go shopping for fun things such as clothes. We may even need some extra money for out-of-pocket medical.
So that was June!
How do you like to have fun while saving money?
I hope you have a great week! 😊
