SSB Weeks 14 & 15: Side hustles (con’t), 75% off mulch, 29 cent supplement, $3 headphones, Mother’s Day

Hi everyone! It’s been a minute — the side hustle has been keeping me quite busy on my days off!

Catching up here for a couple of weeks: I got a deal on mulch for 75% off (will show how), and got a 29 cent supplement, and got some cheap headphones.

We splurged a bit on Mother’s Day catering the food and we spent more at the grocery store than we normally would for the extras. We also had some friends over and got extra food for that. In addition, we sent my grandmother a lemoncello cake, which she loved!

I am realizing that without the side hustle, we’re not really able to do the fun things we’d like to, such as having family over for a meal. Food is expensive! Anyway… let’s kick things off with the deals.

Deals I got

Believe it or not, I got a supplement I needed for just 29 cents after coupons and Subscribe and Save discounts, and after rewards points. I cancel the Subscribe and Save option after receiving the delivery for the first item. (I know, rude, right!?) But typically, I don’t need these items on the set schedule.

My headphones died, and I found a brand new pair at Target for just $2.99! Sweet!!

Finally, we got a super deal on mulch. Lowe’s was offering its 50% off sale, and then we decided to pick up all the broken bags we could for 50% off that. So we saved 75% on the broken bags!

Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day was fun and we had Justin’s family over and my stepmom. We got them some hummingbird feeders I found on sale at Clark Deals!

We also sent my grandmother this lemoncello cake. Pricey, but totally worth it to hear how she loved it!

The hustle continues

I wouldn’t mind a side hustle in retirement. But it all depends on several factors. What kind is it? How will my health be? Will I be able to keep up with it? More and more, I’m realizing how important it is to have a retirement account, and to make sure you have trusted individuals helping you manage it once you are not longer able to. (More on that in the coming weeks.)

For these side hustles with Veho and Roadie, I am able to keep up as I am now. But this may be a question as I get older.

What do I like about them? For one, I love driving. Since I’m using my car to make money, I can write it off on my taxes. I like seeing people’s pretty landscaping. I like that I can set my own schedule; I just need to make sure to finish my routes before the day is out. I like getting out in the sun when it’s not raining. It gives me exercise. It’s also a great side hustle for an introvert, as talking to people is minimal!

As far as cons go, the gates can get tricky. At least 50% of the time, people don’t answer the calls for their entry gates. And it can get HOT. I’m not sure how this will go in the heat of summer, but we’ll see!

Non-essential spending

This month we spent some money on non-essentials such as flowers and mulch to clean up the yard, and on food for guests we wanted to have over. Our power bill also put a dent in our budget at $225, but it’s not nearly as crazy as it probably will be in the heat of summer. We’ll need to plan for that. I also want to get my hair done! I can cut it myself, but I can’t do the highlighting. We’ll see if it will be possible during this experiment. We have about $423 left for this month, not counting anything I’ll earn with the side hustle.

Hope you all have a great week!!! 😊
